New Delhi. The Center said in the Lok Sabha on Monday that the government has no proposal to withdraw the 2000-rupee banknote from circulation. Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur gave this information in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. He said that there is no proposal of the government to withdraw the 2000 rupee banknote from circulation.

He also said that most of the banknotes in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 200 are in circulation. Keeping this in mind, State Bank of India has issued information to its local headquarters to redesign automated teller machines (ATMs) as per the currency notes of the said denomination. However, currency notes of 2000 rupees are still being distributed in many ATMs.
